The World's Larges Flower
The The Tambunan Rafflesia Conservation
Area, about an hour’s drive from KK on the Donggongon-Tambuan Road
just after the Alab Pass is one of the popular viewing spots of the
Rafflesia flower here, as it grows abundantly in this particular
region.
Sometimes Rafflesias flower right next to the road, but more often
at 1-2 hours trekking away, deep within the reserve. Those wishing
to go there should be prepared for jungle trekking, and maybe a
moderate level of fitness is needed. Especially during the rainier
seasons the path, steep and over unaccustomed territory can be very
slippery.
The Centre is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m.
to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. The entrance fee
is RM20 (for single person or per group, maximum 6 people),
inclusive of a guide.
To obtain further details on the whether there are any Rafflesia in
bloom at the Tambunan Rafflesia Centre, call Tambunan Forestry
Department at +6013-8812023, Sabah Tourism Board at +6088-212121 or

How to Get to the Rafflesia Conservation Area & Accommodation
Bus, van, taxi, tour operator, ca 1 hour by road (60 km); there is
no accommodation but for those who wish to stay at the Gunung Alab
Pass there are some hotels that provide very basic rooms (maybe
bring your own bed-sheets...).
